THE IMPORTANCE FORENSIC CHIROPRACTIC EVALUATION IN PERSONAL INJURY
Both a low impact auto accident or a severe head-on collision can cause injury to your spine. If these injuries are left untreated, a whiplash can be debilitating with far-reaching effects.
At Matin Chiropractic Group, we recommend you to get a thorough spinal check, that would include the nerves, ligaments, tendons, and muscles following an accident, even if it’s seemingly a minor one. Why? Because any part of your spine that’s unexpectedly jolted sustains microscopic tears. These tears can occur in the discs, tendons, muscles, and nerves. These are the tissues that support the weight of your head and neck and are particularly vulnerable. As a result, your head would feel heavier. They can lead to either nerve or cord compression.
Since we specialize in making sure that your nervous system is healthy and free from any breakdowns, it only makes sense that you should get a comprehensive forensic evaluation following your accident.
Our 35 years of experience and postdoctoral training in Spinal Biomechanical Engineering and Trauma tell us that following an auto accident the spine undergoes arthritic changes if its left untreated. Though your accident initially triggers neck pain, it eventually could spread to surrounding tissues if left untreated. The result can be a constant and consistent neck pain, numbness and tingling in your arms, stiffness, decreased mobility, and more.
The main goal that we have for you is to get you out of the pain ASAP, preventing your spine from degenerating into arthritis, rehabilitating your soft tissues, and preventing you from slipping back. While pain relief and reducing inflammation aren’t difficult after an accident, the challenge is to prevent future degenerations and the potential consequences of chronic arthritic conditions. Because we want you to regain full function, completing an entire treatment plan is essential for maximum spinal correction. Completing the treatment plan is also an important reason for getting a better settlement.

WHIPLASH INJURY CAN HAPPEN AT 2.47 MPH
Whiplash defined is an injury to the ligaments and muscles of the cervical spine or neck that have been hyper-stretched caused by an external force. Most instances of whiplash occur from getting hit from behind either in a sporting injury or car accident. The energy transferred from the bullet car to yours can be really powerful and can cause your neck muscles, ligaments, and tendons to tear with an incredible force which is unnatural. When these tissues sustain such an incredible force they are stretched far beyond their natural limits, can become torn, and cause pressure on the nerves, and in some cases permanently damaged.
Some of the most common symptoms of whiplash:
- Neck Soreness
- Neck Stiffness
- Ringing/Buzzing In The Ear
- General Stiffness
- Numbness or Radiating Pain In The Neck To The Arms
- Sharp Pains When Moving
- Low Back Pain
The body naturally will try to immobilize the ligamental laxity by causing muscle spasms, to prevent further injury. If the function is not restored after 4-6 weeks your body will build up scar tissue to the site of injury. This will eventually lead to calcium deposition in the damaged joints causing arthritis or joint degeneration. In the latest research, it shows that much of the shock is like a wave that is transferred throughout the vehicle and especially to the occupants.
Forensically investigating the injured tissues of the spine
Upon positive indication of orthopedic and neurological examinations, MRI, EMG, SSEP, BAER, and X-rays of the spine are orderd.
Treatment for Whiplash
Due to the serious nature of auto accidents, a thorough comprehensive consultation, evaluation and a treatment program to reverse the misalignments caused by the accident and strengthen muscles at the site of injury will help achieve a full recovery. There are four phases, Intensive care to relief the pain, Corrective care Medications and muscle relaxants are short-term solutions to the problem and don’t address the weakness of the ligaments and muscles. Also, pain medication typically will be needed to take the edge off the pain. They will not prevent for scar tissue to form, leading to future injuries or chronic neck pain. A person in with a whiplash is “nearly 7 times more susceptible to suffer degeneration of discs within 6-7 years of the accident” (Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery).
Please, call (949) 922-1899 immediately. If you have been involved in an accident that caused whiplash, there are windows of time that the admissibility of your problems will not be allowed to enter the jury’s delibration.
